Around this time of year, you see soda bread in stores almost everywhere where I live. Soda bread to me is one of St. Patrick’s day staples and I always love the crumbly bread with raisins. What I don’t like about most store bought soda bread is that most taste like over sweetened, dense cake. But couple of years ago, I finally found a soda bread that I can eat over and over again.
Enter Blarney Scone from Trader Joe’s. This is the perfect soda bread with crumbly texture, raisins and caraway seeds and it does not taste like cake. I personally love the flavor combination of raisins, (it’s full of raisins) and the herby caraway seeds. It’s also light, so you don’t feel like you just ate a plate of dessert either.
The only down side to Blarney scone, like many seasonal products sold at Trader Joe’s is that they are seasonal, so the bread is only available for few weeks in March. I was so happy when I found this round bread at my local store that I happily bought three of them. I store away extra bread in my freezer and enjoy it for the next couple of months.
Blarney scone is yummy as is, but it taste even more delicious when warmed up in a skillet. I like to add my favorite jam and bit of good butter to my slice and I’m all set.
