Chocolate orange oatmeal cookies combine rich chocolate, zesty candied oranges, and hearty oats for deliciously chewy and flavorful cookies.
Why You’ll Love Chocolate Orange Oatmeal Cookies
- Easy to make. They’re drop cookies, you don’t need to spend time rolling the dough or cut out cookies!
- Chocolate and orange are one of the best flavor combos! Semi-sweet chocolate chips and refreshing candied oranges with every bite make these cookies addictive, especially in the summer.
- Great texture. These cookies have hearty, chewy texture from oats with slight crisp on the edges.
What You Need
- Unsalted butter
- Light brown sugar: Brown sugar adds flavor and moisture to cookies. You don’t need to tightly pack them when measuring. Additional sweetness will come from semi-chocolate chips and candied oranges.
- Egg
- Vanilla extract
- Flour
- Salt
- Baking powder: This helps cookies to rise.
- Baking soda: This allows your cookies to spread.
- Ground cinnamon: I always like a hint of cinnamon with oatmeal cookies. Cinnamon adds warm fragrance and flavor.
- Rolled oats: I use the old-fashioned rolled oats for chewy, hearty texture.
- Semi-sweet chocolate chips: If you’re dark chocolate fan, you can use dark chocolate chips instead.
- Candied oranges: Cakes and cookies full of citrusy flavor makes them more delicious in my opinion! I always reach for candied oranges from Trader Joe’s but you can buy from many different brands through Amazon.
Tips for Best Results
- Chill the dough. Chill the cookie dough in the fridge for at least 30 minutes, up to 24 hours. Chilled dough makes it easier to form into balls and also prevents cookies from spreading too much while baking.
- Lightly press down each cookie. After forming the dough into 2-tablespoon balls, use your thumb or finger and lightly press each cookie. This prevents cookies from being too thick.
- Use additional chocolate chips for decoration. Add 2-3 additional chocolate chips on top of each cookie before baking.
